Communities
230,000 people live in rural Surrey and one of our key objectives is to improve their quality of life. Rural Surrey is often perceived as wealthy and affluent, however there are significant pockets of deprivation and social isolation. Communities in rural Surrey also face challenges such as the centralisation of health and social care facilities, rising cost of housing, ageing populations, the impact of climate change, and lack of public transport.
The Surrey Rural Partnership supports rural communities to identify their local needs, and then take collective action to meet those needs and develop sustainable rural towns and villages. The Partnership supports the development of local housing for local people, access to local services, community transport solutions, groups and facilities for young people, and local community facilities such as village halls, shops and pubs. Our aim is to support and strengthen local voluntary and community action and the role of Parish Councils in delivering services and developing local amenities.
